Uukha Sx+ experience report

Uukha Sx+, a confession of love of a different kind.

I've been bitten by the bug for almost 5 years now. It always had to be a hunting recurve, and at some point you've been through everything and know halfway what you really need - or don't need.

So after 4 years I finally got my dream bow. It had to be a handmade centrepiece from a god-blessed "handle carver" and a couple of French carbon beauties that had to make do with the profane name "Uukha Irbis Nature Evo2".

Well, what can I say - everything I had in my hands so far, and that was quite a lot, went to the corner, or rather to the relevant 2nd hand sites for similarly crazy people with an affinity for bows. I thought I was in bow heaven, my average jumped by 0.7 from one day to the next, and everything would have remained sky blue, if not for ...

... if I hadn't stumbled across this full-bodied, marketing-orientated announcement from my French batten manufacturer on the occasion of the new S-Curves. Be sensible, I told myself, but the sting was already deep in my flesh. The increases in speed, stability and pull-out behaviour of the new S-Curves compared to the outdated, and not at all bland, Curves and X-Curves sounded too tempting. And so it came as it had to. True to the motto "you don't treat yourself to anything else", €885.00 changed hands, and once again an order went out "on spec".

Well, the waiting time was (felt) long, mainly because a small order hoppala happened in France, and unfortunately I was able to sell my Irbis far too quickly. So I had to make do with ILF limbs from the W&W Black Wolf during the Uukha-free period. But then, all of a sudden, they arrived and the moment of truth, whether a bad purchase or not, was mercilessly approaching.

I'll keep it short from here. Draw behaviour, speed, precision, all top league++.

I'm an intuitive 3D shooter - my predecessor, the "Uukha Irbis Nature Evo2", was already pretty good, but the Sx+ is another quantum leap forward in terms of shooting feel. Not cheap, but worth every €. Probably the best WA you can get at the moment, provided you are not subject to any restrictions in the individually selected bow class. And the best thing is ... the average has gone up by another 0.3 so far. In this sense - it fits! Fortunately, bad purchases look different!

My current setup:

  • Riser: Pointinger 21" ILF Custom with grip adjustment
  • Limbs: Uukha Sx+ / X-Long 72" / 40#@28" (on 25" centre section)
  • String: Grizzly String Pro / 18 strands / BCY 8125
  • Brace height: 8.75"
  • Arrows: 500 GT Ultra Light / 85gn tip / 14gn insert / GT Accu Lite nock / 306gn complete
  • Draw/grip: 30.5"/3-Under

Results: 68" bow length, approx. 45-50# on the finger, depending on the tiller setting, and makes 225-235 fps
